A rotating cutting mat is designed to rotate smoothly. It sits on a base that allows it to spin 360 degrees and is typically used in quilting or projects where the fabric needs to be cut at different angles without physically moving it. A self-cutting mat, on the other hand, is made from PVC or similar plastic materials and can heal or close small cuts made by tools like rotary cutters or hobby knives. These mats are often used in sewing, quilting, or scrapbooking. Their self-healing qualities allow their surface to remain smooth and extend their lifespan.

When you’re finished using your cutting mat, wipe the surface with a soft cloth. If any remaining fibres are stuck to your art mat, you can remove them using packing tape or a soft brush, such as a toothbrush. Additionally, you can use an eraser in a circular motion to remove fibres.
Run the mat under room-temperature water with a mild detergent, such as dish soap, and gently scrub. Avoid using metal items, like scissors, to dig out fibres.
If you need to deep clean your craft mat, you can wipe it down gently to remove as many fibres as possible. Next, add enough room-temperature water to a large plastic tub, sink, or bathtub to cover your mat. Add a quarter cup of white vinegar for every gallon of water and let the mat soak for 10-20 minutes. Add mild detergent and gently brush to remove any remaining fibres. Dry with a cotton towel, and your mat will be ready for its next use.
